Emily is a Master-level cosplayer specializing in mixed media costumes. She has won several awards for craftsmanship and performance over her four years of participation in competition cosplay. With a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering and a Master of Science in Systems Engineering, she employs these skills in her costumes, creating custom 3D-designed props, showcasing her electrical design expertise, and microcontroller programming.
Emily began her cosplaying journey around 2011, initially through a high school program called "Creative Convention." This one-day event was dedicated to costume and prop making, skit writing, and performance in small teams. During her time in college as an engineering student and as a leader on her Formula SAE team, Emily honed her design and fabrication skills. Outside of her cosplay endeavors, Emily works as a Senior Systems Engineer at a company that designs simulators for planes, trains, automobiles, as well as simulated and virtual firearms, which she humorously describes as "fancy arcade games and laser tag."
Throughout her cosplaying journey, Emily has created costumes from a wide range of media, including Nintendo, The Legend of Korra, Baldur's Gate 3, The Legend of Zelda, Destiny 2, The Witcher 3, Pokemon, She-Ra and the Princesses of Power, and more. She has established herself as a valuable resource in the cosplay community for mechanical engineering, electronics design, integration, and the implementation of cosplay props and accessories.
Emily has collaborated with other award-winning cosplayers in cosplay repair at Reedpop's C2E2 Cosplay Central. She was also accepted to compete in the Crown Championship of Cosplay qualifier in Chicago in 2022 and has participated at the Master's level in international competition qualifiers for ICL Solo and CWM Solo in 2022. Emily is also a Department Head for the Swadge design team at Super MAGFest, which is a custom "swag badge" available to attendees at each event loaded with games, tools, and utilities to use at the event and after. She has also contributed to other conventions in various volunteer roles.
Emily is a passionate advocate for educational initiatives aimed at elevating the standards of cosplay hobbies and competitions. Through informative panels on 3D printing, design, and electronics in cosplay, she aims to demystify these complex subjects and lower the barriers for curious makers. Additionally, she supports communities and advocates working towards improving and ensuring the safety of the cosplay hobby for all participants.
